A truly one-of-a-kind piece of Yellow Birch, locally known in Québec as Merisier, recovered from the forest and individually prepared in our workshop.

Rather than cutting this piece into a perfectly uniform commercial board, its naturally irregular profile was intentionally preserved. The faces have been planed and sanded to reveal the wood, while keeping the original forest character that makes the piece unique.

This board displays beautiful flowing grain, warm cream and golden-brown tones, natural knots, darker mineral-like markings and areas of spalting that create irregular lines and movement throughout the surface. The figure becomes especially pronounced around the knots, where the grain forms distinctive circular and wavy patterns.

Its combination of a natural outline and prepared surfaces makes it an excellent choice for an artisan who wants the character of forest wood without starting from a rough, unsurfaced piece.

Merisier spalté – Pièce naturelle de la forêt #1

Une véritable pièce unique de merisier, récupérée directement de la forêt puis préparée individuellement dans notre atelier.

Plutôt que de transformer cette pièce en une planche parfaitement droite et uniforme, nous avons volontairement conservé son profil naturel et irrégulier. Les faces ont été rabotées et sablées afin de révéler le bois, tout en préservant le caractère brut provenant directement de l'arbre.

Cette pièce présente un superbe grain ondulant, des tons crème, miel et brun naturel, plusieurs petits nœuds ainsi que des zones de spalting créant des lignes et variations uniques dans le bois. Autour des nœuds, le grain forme notamment de très beaux mouvements circulaires et sinueux qui donnent beaucoup de caractère à la pièce.

Elle offre donc un excellent compromis entre une pièce naturelle de forêt et un bois déjà préparé pour l'artisan : le caractère brut est conservé, mais les principales surfaces ont déjà été travaillées.
